Alex's Blog
Hey everyone, my name is Alex Segui and this is my very
first blog post that I’ve ever done! Ill start off with a little introduction
about who I am and what I’m about. So, to start off I am a Fitness and Health
Promotion student who grew up in Scarborough, Ontario. I am also an athlete on
the Men’s Volleyball program at Humber. This isn’t my first year at Humber,
considering this is a class that is often taken and completed in first year. This
is also not the first post-secondary institution that I’ve studied at, initially
starting my post-secondary studies at York University for about a year and a
half.
This is a little photo from the season last year where we finished 1st in the province
For me the essential skills and learning outcomes that I am
most enthusiastic about are being able to locate and assess online information
and being able to think creatively and innovatively. Finding and using online information
has always been something I’ve struggled with. It seems like I find it
difficult to locate online information and choose one to utilize while writing.
On top of that, being able to extract strictly the important information that I
need also presents me with difficulties. Hopefully, by the end of this semester
I can feel more confident in this area, and I can begin to apply it in the
future. One thing that I’m a little anxious about is the personal skills
aspect. Specifically, managing change and being flexible and adaptable. I think
I’m just someone who struggles with change in general, especially if it’s
something that I’ve been so comfortable with for a long period of time. It
takes me a while to adapt to new things and it’s been more apparent to me as of
late.
Something that’s new to me that won’t take me a while to adapt to is the assessment and grading system for this course! I really like the format of the grading for this course because it’s completely determined on how much effort the student is willing to do. Even if the student isn’t that great in the classroom per-say they can still earn decent marks if they are trying. Especially if it might be an area of the course that isn’t a strong suit for someone, they can still earn good marks because of the effort they put in. It’s definitely the first time I’ve had a grading system like this, but I feel like it is something that I can absolutely get accustomed to.

Something about your post that engaged me as a reader was learning that you are an athlete on the men’s volleyball program at Humber. I also played volleyball all through middle and high school. In your post, you mentioned that you really care about climate change in the world today. What is the topic of climate change that you are most concerned with? I’ve noticed that, for me, a post is most engaging when it has headings for the paragraphs and lots of images. This helps a reader focus better on the topic you are writing about. I like the picture of your volleyball season last year where you finished first in the province.
ReplyDeleteHi Alex, I love that you are an athlete just like l am. Your achievement in volleyball really stood out for me. It is not easy to achieve province first place and I really want to congratulate you. I'm curious to know more about your training methods before and after the games and tournaments you have. Something you might consider next time is making the post more eye catching with colours of your background and pictures you upload. I really enjoyed your self explanatory sentences and your confidence.
ReplyDeleteAlex, congratulations on finishing 1st place in the province for Humber's Men's Volleyball! Your picture, caption, and text in your first paragraph gave me a good introduction to you, and the flow in that paragraph worked nicely as you transitioned from volleyball to your broader experience at Humber and other post-secondary experience. Your transitioning from one paragraph to the next, and within paragraphs, stood out for me as a strength of your writing.
ReplyDeleteIn future written communication, you might consider incorporating a closing paragraph, and perhaps speaking directly to your audience there, as you did in your opening, to tie together the composition as a whole.
I enjoyed reading your thoughts on various themes related to the course, and I look forward to working with you!
